I recently found her Youtube channel and like some her more recent videos, but I'm struggling to find much information on what her reputation is like within the scientific community. You can look at her publication record here:And compare it to someone like Lee Smolin who has also done anti-string theory pop sci stuff:And you'll see that Lee Smolin has 10x the citations and 2x the h-index (these are the common rough indicators of how "good" a physicists is).Which is to say that Sabine is qualified and knowledgeable on the topic but by no means a "big name". The part about my job that bothers me most is the need to work on something that is popular or to work with people who are popular. I almost left academia because of this several times, and I still feel every other year that academia just isn’t for me. If I can only get funding to work on research I don’t consider promising, then what’s the point?I know now that 20 years later I am still working in the same field.

The younger you are (“young” in working years after PhD) the easier it is to get financial support for individual research.

Comment moderation on this blog is turned on. I have always had, and still have, trouble funding my research because I tend to be interested in topics that few of my colleagues find relevant. I don’t do coding myself any more, but I occasionally do some numerical analysis.
