Ratings "The Haunting of Villa Diodati" was watched by 3.86 million viewers overnight, making it the seventh most watched programme for the day in the United Kingdom. I was finally hooked into an episode. The episode begins with a cold open once again (please can we have these every episode) introducing the characters, setting and 'vibe'. And the Doctor is forced into an earth-shattering decision. It took a while, but it's here. And the Doctor is forced into an earth-shattering decision. The Doctor and her irritating tag-alongs materialise in Villa Diodati in 1816, on the evening famous for inspiring Mary Shelly to write Frankenstein. 10/10 Expected another boring filler but was shocked and surprised by the lone cyberman. I was waiting for the 'Man hating' and Humans destroy earth segments, although it was very subtle this time. And the Doctor is forced into an earth-shattering decision. 4 out of 7 found this helpful. We can only hope... Two decent episodes out of eight, is not a good basis for a successful series. A string of mysteries and turns kept me on edge. The plan was to spend the evening in the presence of literary greats - but the ghosts are all too real. Then little over half way the plot picked up a bit and my interest levels were raised a tad. Was this review helpful? 'The Haunting of Villa Diodati' ends abruptly and really can't be judged as a standalone story, but as the opening to a 2 or 3 part story arc, it is quite good. Amazing writing and progressing, really stuck The landing on the horror part, and the comedic part. Needless to say, something is amiss - strange events begin to occur and people slowly realise that they are trapped in an ostensibly haunted house. A very obvious haunted house plot done well without the preachy-Ness and political statements. However this goes up a notch with the creeps. The episode eschews the simple-minded preachiness that has muddled earlier stores and the cast playing the Regency era celebrities (the Shellys, Lord Byron, Polidori, Claimont) are very good (maybe too good - as other's have opined, the guest cast outshines the stars). It's been 5 weeks since I last watch DW I just didn't have time to waste based on the bias of the season. Was this review helpful to you?

But even though the season started of sluggish. However, all this frigidness becomes clearer and clearer in the fact that it's down to the identity of the show.

Villa Diodati, 1816 - on a night that inspired Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. This is a fantastic story in itself and also moves on the series arc adding further layers building towards the series final 2-part story. Was this review helpful? It's very hard to distinguish what's gone wrong with doctor who lately, from the writing, acting, or character development. Yet it was okay. 18 out of 31 found this helpful.
