Why??? I have been a fan of Dean Koontz for over thirty years . Sometimes the ending doesn't hold up, and contradicts or is inferior to the previous books. I also didn’t have any of the issues with the animation feature that the One-star Reviewer found so irritating and problematic. I almost didn’t purchase the Kindle version because of a previous review about it having advertisements about audible. I assume the symbolism is supposed to reflect the plotline. This has the feel of the Will Smith film, Enemy of the State, with Jane as the feisty stellar protagonist being ferociously hunted down, she is joined in her battle by the genius hacker that is Vikram Rangenaker and the few allies who believe in her. There’s a good story hidden somewhere in here, but it’s buried under Dean Koontz’s bloated, purple prose. I agree with the quote: "Jane Hawk is arguably the best character Koontz has created. Then there are the usual formula that Koontz uses in all of his books: a possible romance; the ongoing, never ending battle between good and evil; the government and its continuing attempts to be at the top of the food chain; a local sheriff who may or may not be on the take; and so on. Jane’s kick-ass character, the storyline and high tech gadgetry feel fresh and new. I will preface this review by writing that I have been reading Koontz's books since the beginning of his writing career including some of his pseudonyms such as Leigh Nichols, Brian Coffey, and Owen West. There were some books in the series that I thoroughly enjoyed, leaving me breathless. In this tale we have a mildly autistic pre-teen named Woody.
