Ideally, students will have replicated the first-year requirements of the program that they are requesting. Those who have not maintained an overall average of 70% in undergraduate courses are notified that they are unable to continue in the program. A version of this Child and Youth Studies course is required by all concurrent students.Concurrent Teacher Education programs have a limited number of spaces that may be filled. WHEN DO I BEGIN HAVING SCHOOL PLACEMENTS/FIELD EXPERIENCE?7. Graduates from Concurrent Teacher Education Programs at the primary/junior and junior/intermediate levels are required to have completed Grade 12U or M, or university courses in Canadian Geography and Canadian History (or similar courses that emphasize Canadian content) and Science. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.This is a limited enrollment program. Transfer admission requirements are available at Applicants with no more than the equivalent of 4.0 credits may apply for the first year of the concurrent programs and may be admitted if there is space available and the admission requirements are met. Students may apply and be admitted to second year if there is space available. Appointments can be made through the student portal.Students who do not maintain the 70% cumulative overall undergraduate average are removed from their Concurrent Teacher Education program.
Although admissions will be primarily based on grades, other criteria such as teaching area of high need may be used in the selection process in any given year. The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) provides an opportunity for teacher candidates to specialize in Aboriginal education through Aboriginal-specific programming, application of Aboriginal perspectives and world view to theory and practice. You can elect to take the Primary-Junior, Junior-Intermediate, or Intermediate-Senior stream to develop expertise in teaching students in grades JK-6, 4-10, and 7-12, respectively.
